There’s never a better feeling than sending a beautiful food hamper to a close friend, family member or important client at work. What can make that feeling even nicer is knowing that you were able to save a bit of money in the process. With the current economy, we’re all trying to find ways to make our hard earned cash go a bit further. With that thought in mind, we’ve created a list of ways that can save you money when buying and sending food hampers.
Here’s our list of 7 ways to sending food hampers inexpensively, which we hope will be both helpful and time saving:
1) Create your own hamper – Instead of choosing hampers that have been pre-assembled and already thought out for you, why not choose the foods and treats that you know your recipient will love. You know what they’ll like and dislike, why not pick and choose the goodies they love? Sure makes a lot of sense when you think about it. If you have a limited budget, this is a great cost controller.
2) Hampers don’t need to be massive – You’re wanting to give a nice gift in the form of a food hamper filled with delicious foods. Where is it written that one must make their hamper massive? It’s not written anywhere. So, choose a nice selection of items, keeping them related if you can, but keep the quantities down to a minimum. Always remember, it’s the thought that really counts.
3) Alcohol is expensive and not required – Sending a food hamper does not require alcohol to be included. This will definitely keep your hamper costs down and there are plenty of luxurious treats to fill the hamper with that are less expensive than alcohol. If you want to send a drink, why not send a non-alcoholic drink instead? A healthy apple juice is a nice alternative.
4) Only send hampers within your country – Delivery costs are unfortunately one of those necessary evils that we all get burdened with. Some companies add the delivery cost at the end of your transaction where you can see it and others hide the delivery cost in the overall price of the hamper and tell you the delivery is free…which it never is. Sending hampers to other countries, increases the cost significantly. By sending hampers only within your country, the costs are not increased. If you need to send a food hamper to another country, select a hamper company from that country first. Their delivery rates will be far less that a domestic company can offer.
5) Don’t send hampers on weekends- Delivery charges are quoted for Monday through Friday deliveries, because that’s when most courier companies deliver and they offer their most affordable rates. If you want to deliver a hamper for a Saturday delivery, you will pay dearly for that convenience. Avoid the extra cost and have it delivered the day before. Keep deliveries to weekdays and you will always save.
6) Don’t pay for a “personal message added” – To have a personal message added to your hamper, this should be a “free service”, which includes a “free card”. Companies will offer a variety of cards, and charge you a small fee for them.That’s just crazy. Look for companies that want to help you and will have your message handwritten on a greeting card…all done for free. It just adds that personal touch, which recipients like and it doesn’t have to cost anything.
7) Are the products value for money? – Looking at the items put into hampers, have they won any food awards. Top quality fine foods always receive awards. Quality food companies enter fine food competitions often because winning means more sales. It’s your guarantee that the food in your hamper tastes as good as it looks. If the food looks cheap, chances are the taste will equal the price.
